The black and orange wires are for the cylinder number one primary fuel injector. If the wires are not routed into the area between the fuel rail and the plenum flange, they can get sandwiched between the plenum and the injector housing when the plenum is installed.

The orange wire connects to switched battery power via the INJ1 fuse. If the orange wire is pinched the engine will not run due to an open INJ1 fuse. If the black wire is pinched the fuel injector will fully open whenever the engine is started. The engine will have a misfire and a lot of white smoke in the exhaust at idle.

The black wire was pinched when service was performed at a GM dealer.
