This is a failure of the gasket in the area between the water passage and the cylinder number four primary intake port. We have seen this problem several times, but only on '93 to '95 engines. The following may be factors in the failures. The gasket material was changed from the gray material to the black material during '93 production. We have noticed that '93 and up injector housing bolts tend to be looser than the early engines.

The gasket can also pull into the intake port in any area on the gasket. When this happens the gasket can be seen hanging in the port when viewing down the port.
